Telling
our personal stories heals us.
Accidental or
unintended pregnancy happens to millions of women in the world each year. Because
we are fertile for a large part of our lives, and because we are sexual beings,
pregnancy happens. It is natural.
Many of us have
strong feelings about getting accidentally pregnant. When we tell our stories out loud, we have a healing experience. Keeping our emotions
all bottled up can be harmful to our emotional and physical well-being.
Telling the truth about
womens lives changes the world.
When women tell each other about our lives, we discover common themes.
We learn that our individual experiences of alienation, invisibility, discrimination, lack of recognition, and family pressure are felt by other women. Feminism is born in telling our stories and listening to each other.
When women take on the challenge of improving the world for other women, we make change happen.
Sharing
our personal experience connects women.
Anti-abortion groups created a backlash against women. Women who had abortions feel we must hide and be silent -- because we dont
know who we can trust. But, when we do tell our friends
and family, we frequently discover we are not alone. Often,
our friends and family have also faced the desperation of an accidental pregnancy and they understand the importance of access to safe abortion.
