Health Question:
I want to switch from Depo to something else. How can I make sure I am continuously covered?
Question:
I have been on the depo shot for almost 6 months. My next shot is due soon. I have experienced every possible side effect listed and I really want to get off this shot. I have gained 18 pounds since I have been on the shot. I am a 25-year-old single parent and I do not want an unplanned pregnancy. I was wondering if someone could tell me the transition period from the depo shot to the pill.
Response:
If you switch from Depo Provera to the birth control pill, the vaginal ring, or the contraceptive patch, it is recommended that you start your new method on the date the next injection is due. Use a back-up method of contraception such as male condoms, female condoms, or abstinence for the first seven days of use of the pill, ring or patch.
