thank you

Thank you for laughing and always making me laugh, even when I was crying.
Thank you for always, so elegantly and respectfully finding ways to connect me
to your world and the beautiful world outside of my illness.

Thank you for your support, which added years to my life by the anguish it saved me.

Thank you for being there, available, accessible, unhurried.

Thank you for listening through what you know and through what you don't know.
Thank you for listening with your mind, your heart and your pituitary.

Thank you for hearing all of me, not just the words of my illness, but the words of my health.

Thank you for trying your best to heal me.

Most of all, thank you for teaching me.

- Holly W. Graves, 2002
